This book depicts and describes the pictorial stained glass windows of Historic Trinity
Lutheran Church, located in the upper walls of the Nave, The Old Testament windows are on the
right wall, next to the Bell Tower. These windows appear in their full beauty only in the early
morning hours, when the sun shines from the east. The New Testament windows are on the left
wall, giving off a warm glow in the afternoon when the sun begins to settle in the west.
These pictorial stained glass windows were made by Henry Lee Willet, of the Willet Glass
company of Philadelphia, one of the outstanding stained glass artists in America. Mr. Willet
designed, executed, and installed windows also at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York
City, The Washington Cathedral in Washington DC, St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral in Detroit,
Calvary Church in Pittsburgh, West Point's Cadet Cathedral, and many more.
The Trinity windows were one of his first sets of windows that were designed, crafted and
installed in the same year, rather than over a period of many years, as is the usual custom. Mr.
Willet used his own thoughts and craftsmanship in the development of the various themes and
designs. The windows are made of stained glass with jewel-like vibrant colors, and vary in color and
density with the changing of exterior lighting. Each upper nave window contains over 6,000 pieces
of glass.
