Book 6: Historic Trinity's Ecclesiastical Artifacts 48 pages
Cathedrals have always been a source of beauty and pride for the city, outrageous and
orthodox, utopian and savvy - the place comes to you all at once, in a great rush of contradiction
and paradox. A place of holy awe! The cathedral speaks in the quietude of holy sanctuaries, in the
golden shout of the might organ raining down, in the stories of Christian history captured in stained
glass and wood and stone carving. It educates and uplifts, using pageantry and drama, choral music
and concerts, dance and sounding bells.
"This is none other but the house of God, and this is the Gate of Heaven.
Whosoever thou art that enterest this church, leave it not without a prayer to God
For thyself, for those who minister, and for those who worship here."
Historic Trinity Lutheran Church as the Lutheran Cathedral of Detroit is designed to express
the spirit of that paragraph. A "church" that is indeed, bringing out in each detail the original
meaning of the Greek word "kyriakon": The Lord's House. Here also art finds its noblest use in the
worship of Almighty God, for his plan of salvation for all mankind is depicted in materials such as
glass, wood, metal, and stone.
This book present the ecclesiastical artifacts, vestments, vessels and furnishing of Historic
