A creche from Historic Trinity's collection of creches

Creches - Manger Scenes on Display

Historic Trinity has more than 250 creches (manger scenes) that are delightfully displayed for your viewing during the Christmas Season. Each year there is a freshness of the display with the rotation of permanent creche's on display, together with new creches added each year to the collection. The creche has been the symbol of Christmas since their beginnings in 1224, when St. Francis of Assisi commissioned the creation of the first one in Italy. Since then, many nations and people have created their own variation of creches. The creche may be a tiny home made one from a shoe box, or a gorgeous display of exquisite art, but each one points to the lowly Babe in the manger.

Only at Historic Trinity, will you find some of the most varied and matchless collections of creches in Detroit - some very old, some new, some very small, some very large, and one to represent almost every country in the world. The majority of creches, in Historic Trinity's permanent collection are wonderful gifts from our members and friends.
