Historic Trinity Endowment Funds

The Historic Trinity Endowment Funds provide you with an opportunity to help secure the future of Historic Trinity. One of the major costs related to operating a downtown church is the maintenance of its facilities, meeting the ever growing costs of its utilities and insurance premiums, and salaries. For almost 150 years, since 1850, Historic Trinity has been a beacon of religious stability for families, friends and individuals of Metropolitan Detroit. Your Endowment Fund gift will assure that this fine historical cathedral will be serving future generations well into the 21st century.

PURPOSE

The Historic Trinity Endowment Funds were established to ensure adequate funding for the present and future of these architecturally significant facilities and its activities.

TYPE OF ENDOWMENTS

Historic Trinity maintains three endowment funds:

  1. A Trust Fund for major renovation, utilities, and property insurance of the cathedral church and Otte Hall.
  2. An Investment Fund for the funding of the Senior Pastor of Historic Trinity.
  3. An Investment Revolving Fund for designated gifts and cash flow.

PRINCIPAL FUNDS

The Principal Funds of the Historic Trinity Endowment Funds are held in Trust by a bank or fund selected by the Endowment Committee and shall never be used other than to produce income for the Fund. These funds may not be expended, loaned, donated, or transferred - only invested or reinvested.

INCOME FUNDS

The income (interest) received from the Historic Trinity Endowment Funds are used for payment of utilities, insurance and major maintenance, or designated ministries . This ensures that Historic Trinity's church facilities and activities will continue past the 21st century.

TAX DEDUCTION

All cash gifts to Historic Trinity Church and the Historic Trinity Endowment Funds qualify for an immediate income tax charitable deduction. Marketable securities which have appreciated in value may be donated at current market value and receive the income tax charitable deduction. In addition, such property can be given and avoid appreciated property capital gains taxes. Consult your attorney or financial advisor for additional information.

STRUCTURE

The Historic Trinity Endowment Committee is appointed at the Annual Meeting of the Voters of Historic Trinity Lutheran Church upon the recommendation of the Pastor and the President of the congregation.

AUDIT

All funds, principal and interest, are reviewed each year by an independent audit firm.
